A Kinder, Gentler Exercise Routine

The new Living With Food Allergies Carnival is up at The Allergic Kid. I submitted a letter about breast milk ice cream, but the other contributors wrote thought-provoking posts and contributed great recipes, as usual. Vegan Caramel Apples! Mmm....

Since my beloved Denise (SHUT UP!) has been removed from Lifetime, I'm in the market for a new exercise show or DVD. What do you like? Think twice before recommending something hardcore; you're talking to a person still mourning the loss of someone who regularly encouraged her to, "Tone that tushy!"

  1. OK, OK, here are some exercise videos I like. Any of The Firm, but they will kick your butt. We have the first series and I really like the 5 day abs. It's probably my favorite and Matt's least favorite. I also like Crunch Tae Boxing with Billy Blanks. And my favorite is another Crunch video, and I can't find it to tell you about it. I have no idea what happened to it. (Tells you how much I use it.) Anyway, there are a few suggestions. Let me know if you find something new that you love.

  2. I used to do the Windsor Pilates set, but now revisiting them they are BUTT kickers! Also, Tae Bo used to be a beloved, but I was gasping for air last time I tried it (July).

I'm a huge fan of the 8 minute collection: http://tinyurl.com/y7tomh I have the 8 minute arms and 8 minute legs, but have tried the other 2 of a friend's and they're great too. They were made in the early to mid 90s so beware of the cheesy outfits and dialogue.

It's set up in 30 minute increments of different repetitions or exercises and the guy encourages you non-stop along with the added motivation of seeing the :30 second counter and progress bar at the bottom. It's great for those of us who need that extra "push" and babying. ;)

  3. I don't understand how you exercise with videos... It's so much better to go for a run and exercise outside!

I was going to a gym but then stopped going... I'm thinking of Yoga... That sounds nice.. :)

  4. Thanks for the ideas!

Blooming Almond--I'd much rather exercise outside, but that's hard to do with two babies at home, especially in the snow!

  7. My sister-in-law gave me the Crunch Super SlimDown Pilates Yoga Blend with Ellen Barrett. I also tried the Pilates one (not a blend) and didn't like it anywhere near as much. The Blend has a nice mix, where some of it was too hard for me but not such a large percentage that I lost hope---more that I could see how I would get better with time. And I liked the attitude of Ellen Barrett. (I used to do Denise Austin workouts all the time too!)
