When Squirrels Attack

Here is my friend's email recap of what happened to me yesterday:

One day, a very conscientious young mother decided to go out and weed her gardens:
Suddenly, there arose a clatter from the wires above. Turning around, the conscientious young mother was shocked to see a squirrel poised in full attack mode. The full story is coming soon to a theater near you:

That's right: a squirrel ran down a telephone pole and straight at my face while I was weeding yesterday. It had its teeth bared and was screeching. I yelled and threw a handful of weeds at it and lived to tell the tale.

Whew.

  1. Holy smokes!

We have a big fat squirrel that lives in our shed. I've been tempted to start feeding it nuts b/c he looks so cute, but I think I'll keep our distance after hearing this! Never knew they beared teeth and got aggressive!

  2. ha ha

im an animal lover but honestly, im really starting to hate squirrels. they are mean and nasty and they rip my sunflowers out of the ground. there is one in particular that sits on the fence by my back door and makes nasty noises at me while im on the computer. i hate him the most.

whenever i hang laundry i can hear them in the trees above my head. they've fallen down before and i just know that one day one is going to fall and land right on my head. its a fear of mine.

  4. You know, if you stopped wearing that "eau de acorns" perfume, they wouldn't do that. :-)

Squirrels can get down right mean sometimes. You should hear my husband's hunting stories.

  6. omg i don't mean to laugh, but that was really funny. i can kind of relate; last year while running two fight squirrels literally jumped in front of me and one landed on my shoe. of course i screamed like a little girl and shook that bloodsucker off my foot. still freaked out over it all!

  8. Aiieeeee! That's scary and hilarious all at the same time. Remember that scene in Christmas Vacation when the squirrel is loose in the house? And the great solution is to catch it in a coat and smash it with a hammer? The story in my city is that black squirrels are not indigenous to this area, but were actually zoo animals about 70 years ago and some escaped and they procreated all over the place and now they are huge pests. What's funny to me is that they were zoo animals! True story.

  12. That's so funny! Wait, no it's not.

My dad has a horrifying squirrel story too. It involved his truck bed, and a squirrel that fell out of a tree into the side of the truck bed. Yikes! Let's just say that he called his insurance agent (his wife/my mom) to see if their car insurance covered "squirrel damage". Ha!

  13. Oh my... either he has rabies or he was just really excited to see you?!

I have a really large fat squirrel that sits under the bird feeder. He's so fat he just runs in the little dog house instead of climbing a tree... He won't run away but he sure hasn't chased me either he just keeps hoping I'll give him a treat.

  14. I wonder if you were near a cache of nuts and it was going after you to protect its supply.

I just can't think why it would high tail it to attack you!

  16. OMG, that's so crazy!I'm glad you survived that event!

My co-worker was having her porch redone and there was a squirrel nest in it, and one of the squirrels attacked one of the workers, so much so he had to get stitches!!

They are super terratorial and they don't mess around.
